Marlon “Solitaire” King
In 2001 Marlon and ‘Big T’ from Atlanta (via Buffalo, NY) started Insomniac Studios and in 2004 ‘Solitaire’ was born; which was the same year they began showcasing their beats at Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn Festival with fellow Chicago native ‘Shadow’ and ‘Wink’ from Philly.
In April of 2007 Marlon enrolled in Berklee College of Music in their master certification program for music production and technology. At the same time he entered an audio engineering apprenticeship and began interning at 35th Street Studios in Chicago. After finishing his master certification program with Berklee and being certified as an audio engineer in 2008, Marlon began working as a second engineer at 35th Street Studios where he assisted the head engineer and was the staff producer on various recording and production projects for Clear Channel Radio, J. Walter Thompson Advertising, and Music Mind/Universal Records. Eventually Marlon began running his own recording sessions and writing music at the studio for a diverse array of clientelle; from Lorenzo Owens and Carly Patterson to 4ize & GLC.
It only took Marlon 6 months to assume full audio engineering responsibilities such as mixing and mastering. He then developed and implemented digital audio workstation (DAW) training programs for the studio using such applications as Ableton Live, Propellerheads Reason, and ProTools. Likewise, Marlon trained and instructed students and interns at the studio in recording and music production.
In all respects, Marlon has worked with various artists in diverse genres including Hip-Hop, R&B, Gospel, Jazz, and Rock. Admirably when producing music, Marlon tries to use the best of both worlds of analog and digital. In addition to being an engineer, producer, and instructor, Marlon is also skilled in web design.
Currently Marlon ‘Solitaire’ King is finally running his own recording studio: Insomniac Studios along with partners Shadow & Dj All Style and continuing his education at Berklee pursuing a second certification in music business.
